1. Developed three-year strategic plan focused on Organizational Development, Community Programs, and Special Events.
2. Re-launched Board of Directors. Multiple board development meetings were held in 2011 and will resume in 2012.
3. Developed mentoring software program for Be Proactive to track mentor recruitment, background checks, training, matching and youth mentoring sessions.
4. Secured liability insurance through Philadelphia Insurance Companies.
5. Developed youth and community program site at F22 Studio, which is located in East Atlanta at 752 Moreland Avenue, Atlanta, GA 30316.
6. Redesigned logo and first phase of website with support from Happy Doodles Studio, F22 Studio and Cartoon Network.
7. Launched giving program where employees can make monthly payroll deductions to help support Be Proactive’s programs and initiatives. To date, more than 30 employees have enrolled in the program.
8. Strengthened community partnerships with the following agencies and corporations:
o Atlanta Community Impact Program (ACIP) – Be Proactive established a partnership with this coalition, which is being implemented by the Georgia Department of Corrections to combat youth delinquency and provide services to residents returning from incarceration.
o Converse – Be Proactive reached many of its organizational goals with financial and in-kind donations from Converse.
o Excel Science – Be Proactive partnered with Excel Science to organize its Going Green Back to School event. Excel Science helped organize clothing drives, cell phone collections, raffle ticket sales and educational exhibits for the Back to School event.
o Fulton County Youth Coalition – Be Proactive is helping spearhead the development of this new coalition, which is being formed by the Fulton County to bring youth-serving agencies together to strengthen the services available for metro Atlanta youth.
o Hands On Atlanta – Be Proactive became an official agency partner this year and is looking forward to organizing its first MLK Day project in partnership with Hands On Atlanta this January!
o Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) – Be Proactive began participating in MSM’s Master of Public Health internship program. To date, Be Proactive has received support from one student intern.
COMMUNITY PROGRAMS
1. Launched Art In Action, a hands on workshop series that strengthens youth artistic skills, confidence, interpersonal skills and decision-making habits.
2. Organized seven-week Art In Action summer program in partnership with F22 Studio and Rhythma Dance Studios. More than 70 students were engaged in dance, martial arts, photography, music production and other art-based workshops during the summer.
3. Launched Making the B.E.S.T. Man, a school-based mentoring program at B.E.S.T. Academy, an all-male Atlanta Public Middle School. In partnering with B.E.S.T. Academy, Be Proactive recruits, trains and matches adult volunteers with the young men attending B.E.S.T. Academy.
4. Currently leading afterschool art workshops at F22 Studio.
SPECIAL EVENTS
1. Organized two Growing Greatness Summits that connected over 800 youth to Converse shoes, basketballs, arm/wristbands, Christmas toys, goodie bags and information from various community agencies. Also provided Christmas toys to youth at the Fulton County Juvenile Court.
2. Participated in Car Rally to Combat Child Prostitution in partnership with Fill’n the Shoes and Atlanta Community Impact Program.
3. Held Going Green Back to School event at F22 Studio.
4. Organized Peace Week activities in partnership with Fulton County.
5. Organized special youth assembly with singing and acting superstar Tyrese Gibson at B.E.S.T. Academy. Special assembly was made possible by Tanya Culbreth at B.E.S.T. Academy and Rick Ross from Capitol Records.
6. Connected 100 families to Yo Gabba Gabba tickets at Fox Theater. Tickets made possible by ProActive Management Consulting and local radio.
